What kinds of football shirts are sold online?

Three families coexist, and a shop photo will not tell them apart.

• Player version — athletic cut, lighter fabric, heat-applied details. This is the shirt worn on the pitch, and the most expensive in the official range.
• Fan version — regular cut, heavier polyester, embroidered or printed crest. This is the mass-market version clubs sell.
• Unlicensed replica — the same design, made outside the official channel and sold without rights. This is the segment behind the £30 price points.

What actually changes between £30 and £100?

The gap has less to do with fabric than with licensing. A shop shirt pays a royalty to the club and the kit maker, plus physical distribution and a marketing campaign. The replica pays none of that. On the product itself, the differences show up in the finishing: seam regularity, printing density, and how the crest holds up after repeated washes.

Replica or counterfeit: where is the line?

An openly sold replica reproduces a design without passing itself off as a licensed product. A counterfeit imitates trademarks, labels and holograms to mislead the buyer about origin. So the most reliable signal is not the price — it is the seller's wording. Advertising something as "official" at £30 means lying about one of the two.

• The word "official" next to a rock-bottom price: the two cannot both be true.
• No legal notice, no address, no company number anywhere on the site.
• Payment by bank transfer, crypto or a private link rather than a recognised gateway.
• Every photo is a club press image, never the product actually shipped.
• No stated delivery time, or a time no carrier could actually meet.
