Kids' Football Jersey Sizes by Age: The Complete Chart

Picking a kid's jersey size is the leading cause of returns in sportswear e-commerce. Junior sizing doesn't follow the same conventions as adult sizing, and kids grow fast. Here's the exact chart, 2025-2026 season.

Age / size / cm chart

AgeJunior sizeHeight (cm)Chest
2-3 y/oJunior XXS92-98 cm50-52 cm
4-5 y/oJunior XS104-110 cm54-56 cm
6-7 y/oJunior S116-122 cm58-62 cm
8 y/oJunior S/M128 cm64-66 cm
9-10 y/oJunior M134-140 cm68-72 cm
11-12 y/oJunior L146-152 cm74-78 cm
13-14 y/oJunior XL / Adult S158-164 cm80-84 cm
15-16 y/oAdult S/M170-176 cm86-92 cm

Note: These sizes are indicative. Nike, Adidas and Puma differ by up to 4 cm for the same label. Most reliable measurement = chest, taped.

How to measure a kid without messing up

  1. Chest. Run the tape under the arms, around the chest, chest relaxed. Note the number.
  2. Torso length. From the base of the neck (just above the collarbone) down to the lower back, tape flush.
  3. Height in cm. Standing, back to a wall, no shoes. Mark the height, measure to the floor.

Cross these 3 numbers with the chart. If all 3 point to the same size = confidence. If 2 point to one size and 1 to the next = go bigger.

The 4 classic mistakes

  1. Buying "big" to anticipate growth. Skipping 2 sizes = sleeves hanging, shoulders slipping, kid uncomfortable. Skipping 1 = OK for one year. Skipping 2 = never.
  2. Going only by age. Two 8-year-olds can be 15 cm apart. Always check height in cm and chest measurement.
  3. Buying the same size as the previous jersey. Kids grow — last year's size is never today's. Re-measure every purchase.
  4. Adult XS for a pre-teen. Adult XS is longer in the torso but wider under the arms than Junior XL. A 13-14 year old fits Junior XL better. At 15, try adult S.

When to switch to adult sizing?

Practical benchmarks:

  • 158 cm and 78 cm chest: still Junior XL
  • 164 cm and 82 cm: try Adult S (longer, more mature cut)
  • 170 cm and 90 cm: Adult S or M depending on build

If in doubt, go junior: the adult cut quickly becomes floaty for a lean teen.

Kids printing and personalization

On kids jerseys, name + number printing is included in the price just like adult jerseys. Two common options:

  • Favourite player name: Mbappé, Vinicius, Haaland, Salah, Yamal... You show off your kid's idol.
  • The kid's own name: full personalization, guaranteed "wow" effect on unboxing.

Tip: for a surprise gift, favourite player always works; for a birthday or a highly-anticipated gift, the kid's own name makes a stronger keepsake.

Frequently asked questions

Which jersey size for a 6 year old?

+
Age 6 = around 116 cm. Matches junior XS at most brands. Reference chest measurement: 56-60 cm. If the child is tall for their age, go up to 7-8 (128 cm).

Which jersey size for a 10 year old?

+
Age 9-10 = around 140 cm. Matches junior M. Reference chest measurement: 68-72 cm. If unsure between 9-10 and 11-12, go bigger — a slightly loose jersey ages better than a tight one.

At what size should a kid switch to adult jerseys?

+
Around 13-14 (158-164 cm), most kids can move to adult S. The adult cut is roomier under the arms and longer at the torso. If the teen is tall and muscular, try adult M directly.

Are kids jerseys printed like adult jerseys?

+
Yes, on FootSupporter name + number printing is available as a €4.90 option on kids jerseys just like adults. Pick a team player or the child's name, with the same heat-transfer print quality.

How much room should I leave for growth?

+
One size up if the child has grown more than 8 cm since their last jersey, or if it's for a full season. Careful: too big becomes uncomfortable for playing. Best pattern: exact size + one new jersey per season if budget allows.
